Project Overview

This renovation project addresses many of the building’s components that need repair and replacement while breathing new life into our essential place of worship and community center. The transformation focuses on safety, accessibility, and modernization. It includes an elevator to offer access to our mobility-challenged community members, handicapped-accessible washrooms, an expansion of the main entrance with improved doors, a newly renovated gymnasium, and windows for more access to natural light.

Design Phase

The design phase was completed over a period of two years - starting in 2019 to 2022

Building Permit

The building permit was obtained in October 2022

Gym Renovation

This was commenced on November 2022 and a large chunk of it was completed by March 2023 in preparation for Ramadan 2023.

Basement Renovation

Phase I
Start: May 6th, 2023
Completion: June 13-15, 2023

  • New rooftop units (3) specs and 2 new makeup air units for fresh, clean air (learn more) and fans
  • Lift between all three levels along with structural reinforcement
  • Two new washrooms in the gym, including one accessible washroom
  • New Audio and visual system throughout the Masjid including high definition commercial screens (3 sets of 4 in gym - 12 screens), 3 x 75in screens in basement
  • Wood finish walls in gym
  • New high-grade commercial flooring on all three levels
  • Expansion of front lobby and stairs and new entrance way
  • New 200 amp panel in the gymnasium and LED lighting throughout
  • New double door entrance into the gymnasium
  • New exhaust fan in the gym and basement
  • New doors and hardware throughout
  • New acoustic ceiling in the basement hall and acoustic panels in gym
  • Newly upgraded fire alarm system
  • Replacing or repairing baseboard heaters throughout (adding fins, flushing the system, fixing leaks)
  • Repairs as-required: e.g. replacing old cast iron roof drain with new PVC, wiring clean-up, etc.

Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), an extensive tendering process started in June 2022 that included:
  • reaching out to over 200 companies across all disciplines to invite them to bid
  • an invite to community companies to bid by the AMA
In general, bid proposals were assessed based on the following:
  • commercial construction experience, past-projects, references, quality, safety, cost, and schedule.

Nearly everyone involved in this project, from designers to trades and suppliers, have generously gifted some time or services or given discounts as a gift to the Masjid and our community. May Allah reward them in abundance.
